Professional and Medical Career
After completing his undergraduate degree, Freeman attended medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), where he graduated with honors and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He then completed a rigorous five-year orthopaedic surgery residency at UNMC, earning accolades such as Junior Resident of the Year and the Jon Connolly Award for Academic Excellence as a chief resident.
Freeman further specialized in orthopaedic sports medicine during a fellowship at the University of Kansas Health System, working alongside the medical teams for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He also provided care for University of Kansas Division I athletes, gaining expertise in treating overhead athletes and complex shoulder and elbow injuries.
Currently, Freeman practices orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine at the Nebraska Orthopaedic Center in Lincoln, NE. He serves as an assistant team physician for the University of Nebraska Baseball Program and remains dedicated to caring for athletes, particularly those with shoulder and elbow injuries.
Personal Life
Dr. Freeman was born on January 11, 1989, in New Orleans, LA, to Mike and Amy Freeman, both baseball enthusiasts and alumni of Mississippi State University. The Freeman family relocated to Nebraska in 1998 when Mike began working for Union Pacific Railroad.
Freeman lives in Lincoln, NE, with his wife Megan, a former Division I soccer player at Drake University, and their three children: Samantha (7), Greyson (5), and Max (1). His favorite quote, “Nobody said it would be easy,” spoken by Coach Jerry Frerichs during a pivotal 2007 district championship game, continues to inspire him throughout his career.
