2025 HOF Inductee

Matthew Freeman

High School

Dr. Freeman emerged as one of Nebraska’s top pitching prospects while playing at Elkhorn High School under Coach Jerry Frerichs. His accomplishments include:

  • 2007 Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year
  • 2007 Louisville Slugger Player of the Year
  • First-team all-state honors from the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald (2007)
  • Selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Regional Team
  • Named honorary captain of the Omaha World-Herald’s All-Nebraska Team (2007)

Senior Year Highlights

  • ERA: 0.76
  • Opponents’ Batting Average: .154
  • Team Record: 27-5
  • Postseason Performance:
    • 17 innings pitched with 0 runs allowed
    • Complete-game, three-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in a 1-0 semifinal win over top-seeded Grand Island
    • Earned the save in the Class A State Championship game
  • Led Elkhorn to its first-ever Class A State title

Additional Achievements

  • Competed in the 2006 Area Code Games in Long Beach, CA, as part of the Chicago White Sox Midwest Area Code Team.

Freeman graduated from Elkhorn High School with multiple Division I scholarship offers and committed to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
