Matthew Freeman Class Of 2025

Elkhorn — Freeman was one of the top pitching prospects in Nebraska playing at Elkhorn High School under coach Jerry Frerichs. In 2007, he was named Nebraska’s Gatorade Player of the Year along with Louisville Slugger Player of the Year. He swept first-team all-state honors from both the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald in 2007 and was chosen for the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Regional Team.

He was tabbed the honorary captain of the Omaha World-Herald’s All-Nebraska team in 2007 after posting a 0.76 ERA while leading Elkhorn High School to a 27-5 record and the first ever Class A State title for Elkhorn High School. Opponents hit .154 against him as a senior and he went 2-0 during the postseason as he did not allow a run in 17 innings of work which was highlighted by a complete game three-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in a 1-0 win over top-seeded Grand Island in the semi-final before earning the save in the title game.

He was selected to the 2006 Area Code Games in Long Beach, CA as a member of the Chicago White Sox Midwest Area Code Team.
